In School Support
School Relationships: This portion of the model program will encourage close cooperation with both high school and higher education establishments to identify and assist foster youth and other at-risk students with educational planning, providing them with resources to support the work of mentors (youth advocates) and case managers. This initiative is currently being sponsored by the Children's Trust through the Juvenile Court Contact (JCC) program. The JCC program developed curriculum and trained secondary and post secondary JCCs and will work with high school JCCs to reach youth, provide support groups and identify in-school staff mentors. Goals: To address the unique educational needs of foster youth, improving their overall academic performance and increasing the chances that they will complete high school and enroll in college. Outcome to date: Trained more than 600 MDCPS employees, setting up support groups and matching in-school mentors with the youth in MDCPS.
